As an artist and a craftsman, there are things that cannot be taught. There are however rules you can live and grow by. I have summed up the top three that I have made my personal rules and have stuck to for the last 25 years. I hope they will help you along your own journey.

1. Never, NEVER compromise on quality

While there is a growing trend in the world to mass-produce and bring down prices, there is always a loss. In this case, it's quality. We all remember our grandparent's prized watch, pocket knife or Parker pen. Why did they last so long, why have I been able to inherit this stunning work of art and I can still use it? It's because the artisan never compromised on quality.

2. Stay curious

This is one of the tricks to staying relevant and perfecting your craft. The world is forever changing, make sure you stay on top of developments to create better, higher quality products. For me, it has always been my tools. I try to try out new tools whenever I can and upgrade as needed.

3. Be open to collaboration - it stimulates creativity

Finally, to stimulate your own and other's creativity, be open to collaboration. Some of the best ideas and creative endeavours I have personally been a part of has been due to collaboration. I am always open to talking to fellow artisans and working on new ideas and projects.
